Bernard James “Bernie” Kanski, 94, Johnsonburg

Bernard James “Bernie” Kanski, age 94, of Second Avenue, Johnsonburg, PA, died December 1, 2025 at the Presbyterian Home of Holidaysburg, PA, after a short illness. A son of the late Frank and Stella Kanski, he was born on May 21, 1931 in Johnsonburg, PA. On October 6, 1950 he married Ethel (Shippling), who predeceased him on February 19, 2022.

Bernie is survived by: His two sons, Bernard (Julie) Kanski of Warren and Larry (Cindy) Kanski of Holidaysburg, PA; his grandchildren, Kyle, Mark, Chris, Greg and Bethany; and his great-grandchildren, Madelyn, Macey, Maria, Simon, Sam, Abigail, Heath and Felicity.

Along with his parents and his wife, Bernie was predeceased by: six siblings, Frank, Steve, Charles, Jim Leo and Gertrude Kanski.

Bernie graduated Johnsonburg Area Schools and worked as a Supervisor in the Johnsonburg Paper mill for many years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching football and spending time with his family.

Public visitation will be held on Saturday, December 6, 2025, from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m., at the Ubel Funeral Home of Johnsonburg, PA.

Funeral services will be held, 11:30 a.m., Saturday, at the Ubel Funeral Home, with Father David Wilson.
