We at The River 98.9 note with sadness the passing of Sally Wilson. Sally served as Director of the St. Marys Area Chamber of Commerce.
Sally was successful in developing several popular community events during her time as Director. We worked with Sally on many of them, including the Business Expo, which at the beginning, drew thousands of people and several hundred vendors to the St. Marys Area High School.
Another very popular event we helped promote was the annual "Wing Fling", which for years was a sell-out in St. Marys.
As per her obituary, Sally was at the forefront for many other events.
She truly loved her position and the St. Marys community and the diverse activities in which she participated. During her career, she was responsible for and can be directly cited for numerous events and improvements that are still ongoing today. These accomplishments include: the acquisition of the current interior and exterior of the building; implementing the Gift Certificate program which (in 2011) had generated over $440,000 in revenue for local businesses; the Business Expo, July 4th Fireworks Celebration, Business After Hours, Women’s Recognition Program, and the Wing Fling; assisted with execution of major community and area-wide events such as the St. Marys Sesquicentennial, Capital for a Day, International Powdered Metal Symposium, and the Marcellus Shale Expo. She also represented the St. Marys Area on numerous local, county, and regional boards and committees on issues of education, tourism, legislation, economic development, and downtown revitalization.
Our sympathy to Sally's husband, Steve, along with her two children Nikki and Eric and their families.
Thank you, Sally, for your service to your community. You are missed
