Francis “Putsy” McCarren, Sr., age 83, of Pine Avenue, Force, PA, died January 3, 2025 at Penn Highlands-DuBois due to injuries sustained in an auto accident. A son of the late James and Gertrude (Sorg) McCarren, he was born on January 26, 1941 in St. Marys, PA. In 1968 he married Mary (Manners) who preceded him in death on December 13, 2013.
Besides his parents and his wife, Francis was predeceased by: a great-granddaughter, Ariannah Rairdan; three sisters, Victoria, Mary and Holly McCarren; and a brother, Joseph McCarren in infancy.
Francis is survived by: three children, David (Mary) McCarren of Force, Kimberly (Mike) Ehrensberger of St. Marys and Francis “Buddy” McCarren, Jr. of Altoona; eleven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; a brother, James McCarren of St. Marys; and four sisters, Sara McCarren of St. Marys, Geraldine McCarren of Ridgway, Theresa McCarren of Marienville and Patricia (Masden) of Sunbury, PA.
Francis was raised in Dagus Mines, lived several years in St. Marys and the past twenty years in Force. He served in the US Army during Vietnam. He worked many years with Pure Carbon and a few years at the St. Marys Quick-Fill. He enjoyed playing cards, BINGO, camping, board games, helping others, spoiling his grandchildren and recently enjoyed time at the St. Marys Adult Day Care.
Public Visitation will be held on Friday, January 10, 2025 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. and also on Saturday from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. at the Ralph M. Geer Funeral Home of Penfield, PA.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held, 10:30 a.m., Saturday, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church of Force, with Father Mark Mastrian.
Military Honors will be accorded by the Bennetts Valley American Legion post 978.
Interment will take place in the Church Cemetery.
