Grants from Gaming Revenues Fund Local Projects

Grants totaling more than $3.8 million were awarded to 10 municipalities in the 75th District this week. I’m proud to have worked with state Sens. Cris Dush (R-25) and Wayne Langerholc, Jr. (R-35) to make these grants possible.

These Local Share Account grants, which are derived from gaming revenues, were approved and awarded by the Commonwealth Financing Authority, which was established as an independent agency that holds fiduciary responsibility over the funding of programs and investments in Pennsylvania’s economic growth:

• Benezette Township - $172,500 for construction of a public restroom facility.

• Bloom Township - $216,756 for the purchase of a new dump truck with attachments.

• Brady Township - $71,468 for the purchase of a new truck.

• Clearfield County Economic Development Corporation - $615,664 for engineering and design costs related to construction of whitewater parks in both Clearfield and Curwensville boroughs.

• Jay Township - $32,500 for the purchase of two septic grinder pumps.

• Johnsonburg Municipal Authority - $104,275 for a waterline replacement project.

• Penn Township - $140,000 for the purchase of a truck with a plow and spreader.

• St. Marys Area Economic Development Corporation - $700,000 for development of the property at 129 N. Michael St.

• St. Marys - $438,000 for improvements to the city’s seating and park amenities.

• Troutville Borough - $65,642 for the purchase of a plow truck.

It’s important to note that no tax dollars were spent funding these grants, which facilitate larger projects that might otherwise be unaffordable for local governments.

Additionally, two Elk County school districts received grants through the Public School Facility Improvement Grant Program, which is administered by the CFA and funded in the 2023-24 state budget:

• Johnsonburg Area School District - two grants totaling $795,000 for a roof replacement project at Johnsonburg Elementary School and an HVAC project at Johnsonburg Area High School.

• Ridgway Area School District - $500,000 for a safety upgrade to the middle school/high school entrance.
