LauraBelle Jacobs, 97, Johnsonburg

LauraBelle Mowrey Jacobs Halquist, 97 of Johnsonburg, passed away peacefully in her home on Monday, May 6, 2024 surrounded by her family.

The daughter of Lloyd “Emerson” Pegg Mowrey and Mildred Wave Nordstrom of Johnsonburg, she was born on February 4, 1927. LauraBelle graduated from Johnsonburg Area High School, and went on to Lock Haven State Teacher’s College where she majored in Mathematics and Aeronautics. While at Lock Haven, in addition to her studies, she took flying lessons at the Piper Cub aviation school, and after many hours of instruction and a solo takeoff and landing, she was licensed to fly a single engine aircraft.

On August 10, 1946, she married Robert Charles Jacobs, Jr. in the United Methodist Church and had three children who survive: Larrie (Darla Carrera) Jacobs, Robert (Kathy Kastner, deceased 2014) Jacobs, and Jill (Edward) Casilio. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren.

LauraBelle retired in 1982 after 33 years of service at Sylvania in St. Marys (where she became the 1st woman supervisor) in order to spend more time with her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and best friend of many as she kept socially active dancing, traveling, and participating in various events. She was heavily involved with her children and grandchildren’s everyday lives and enjoyed planning family vacations, dinners, picnics, camping, canoeing and more! She was a past member of the White Shrine, and the Order of Eastern Star, where she held several offices over the years, including the state appointment as District Deputy. She did volunteer work such as participating in tutoring GED students, was a Red Cross Director for a number of years, delivered Meals on Wheels, and enjoyed practicing her faith by being involved in various church-related events and activities.

She moved to Belleview, Florida in 2000 and spent her summers in PA until she married Henry (Hank) Halquist on August 5, 2005. For the next 5 years, Hank and LauraBelle established permanent residency in Belleview, FL, where they were both very active in the church doing volunteer work there and at the local hospital. In 2010, they moved back to Johnsonburg where they remained.

LauraBelle was predeceased by her parents, grandparents Charles and Edith Mowrey, and Martin and Hattie Nordstrom, husband Robert (1969), husband Henry (2016), sister Mildred (Mowrey) Primerano, and step-brother Arthur Weilacher.

A private celebration of life will be held at the United Methodist Church at the convenience of the family.
