David "Dave" G. Steis, 60, Ridgway
David "Dave" G. Steis, 60, a native and longtime resident of Ridgway, went home to the Lord on the afternoon of Saturday, December 6, 2025, after a brief stay in Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. In Hebrew, David means "beloved", and that's exactly how he was and will forever be received by friends and family. Steven R. Wendel, 60, of St. Marys, passed away at his home on Saturday, December 6, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family following a long battle with cancer. He was born on April 9, 1965 in St. Marys, a son of the late Laverne "Jerry" and Shirley Glessner Wendel. On May 28, 1988, he married Mary Byrd Wendel, who survives. Two From Johnsonburg Facing Drug Charges After Traffic Stop
State police report two from Johnsonburg are facing drug charges after a traffic stop on Johnsonburg Road. Police reported finding a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle. As a result, a 19-year-old male and 18-year-old female, both from Johnsonburg, are facing related charges.

2026 Fishing Licenses Now Available
The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission has announced this week that 2026 fishing licenses, launch permits and gift vouchers are available for purchase. This would make a great holiday gift for those in your life that love the outdoors! You may purchase licenses at huntfish.pa.gov or by visiting a retail license issuing agent. 2026 licenses, permits, and vouchers purchased now are valid from the date purchased through Dec. 31, 2026.


North Michael Street Now Open To Traffic
The City of St. Marys announced that North Michael street has reopened to traffic. While construction of the roadway portion of the project is complete, there is still work to be done. however, this work will be weather permitting.

Man Facing DUI Charges After Traffic Stop In Cameron County
State police in Emporium reported conducting a traffic stop on Rich Valley Road in Shippen Township. After making contact with the operator, it was discovered the driver was under the influence of alcohol. The man was taken to Penn Highlands Elk for a blood test. The investigation is ongoing.


Elk County Community Foundation Grants Available, Apply By January 15th
The Elk County Community Foundation is accepting applications through January 15 for thousands of dollars in grants currently available to eligible organizations during their open grant cycle. Organizations may currently submit applications for grant funding from the Harrison and Muriel Dauer Stackpole Family Fund, the newly named Elk County Community Fund, or the Elk County Society for Special Services Fund. St. Marys Pharmacy Moves To New Location Saturday, December 6th, Becomes Penn Highlands Community Pharmacy
St. Marys Pharmacy will be moving to the campus of Penn Highlands Elk on Saturday, December 6, 2025. The pharmacy will be open at its current location, 4 Railroad Street on Saturday, December 6 for prescription pickup only. The ability to process new prescriptions will be limited. The pharmacy will reopen on Sunday, December 7, 2025 at the new location and with a new name - Penn Highlands Community Pharmacy-St. Marys.
