Barbara Werner, 82, St. Marys

Barbara Werner, 82, of E. Condot Road, St. Marys, passed away peacefully Sunday, April 21, 2024 at Penn Highlands Elk.

She was born July 19, 1941 in St. Marys, daughter of the late Edwin and Ethel Woods Wittman. She was a graduate of St. Marys High School, Class of 1959 and continued her education graduating from Lock Haven State Teachers College in 1963, where she earned her degree in Health and Physical Education.

On June 19, 1967, in Sacred Heart Church, she married the late Joseph F. Werner, who preceded her in death on March 16, 2009.

Barbara is survived by a brother-in-law, Carl Werner. After the death of Carl’s parents, Joe and Barbara were pleased to have Carl make his home with them during his younger years and later on, to be so warmly included with his family, wife, and children. Also surviving are brothers: John “Elroy” Wittman of St. Marys and Michael Wittman (Marcie) of Centre Hall; sisters-in-law: Anne Proske of Ridgway and Sarah “Sallie” Wittman of St. Marys; nieces and nephews, whom she was so proud of and honored to be a part of some of the most important events of their lives.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Edwin “Pike” Wittman; a sister-in-law, Maureen Wittman; a brother-in-law, Joseph Proske; and a niece, Julia Braccia.

Barbara enjoyed her years teaching in Johnsonburg, sports (especially golf), music, going to camp, and trips to the casino. She would readily agree the two holes-in-one she made playing golf, one at the former St. Marys Country Club, the other at the Bavarian Hills, were just lucky shots.

“Aunt Bee” loved butterflies, bees, cats, and cars. Most of all, she loved get-togethers with family and friends, the Pool Pals, the Domino Dames, the bridge group, and class¬¬¬ lunches.

As a business woman, she successfully headed the family business partnership for twenty-five years. In the early nineties, after a long battle with cancer, she formed a cancer support group which met on a regular basis for a number of years. She was a qualified member of the Look Better, Feel Better program and helped many people through their trying journeys with cancer.

Barbara had an unwavering faith in God through good times and bad and appreciated the many blessings He bestowed on her. She lived life to the fullest, was a comfort to many and never passed up a chance to laugh and have fun.

A funeral service will be held in the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 at 10:30AM with Rev. Jeffery Noble, officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
