Crusader Soccer Team Wins In Double Overtime Over Ridgway

The Lady Crusaders played the Ridgway Lady Elkers tonight for the first round of District 9 playoffs. The Lady Crusaders won 1-0 in double overtime.

The game remained scoreless through regulation and the first fifteen minutes of overtime.

Lillian Belsole was in the net for the Lady Crusaders and made a phenomenal save to keep the game scoreless in the second overtime.

Then with just 1:41 left in the last overtime, Sophia Shirey carried the ball from the defense and made a fantastic pass to Leah Piccirillo who found the back of the net.

"It was just one of those nights we couldn't finish, which happens sometimes. We controlled the ball probably about 90% of the time and had some really great scoring opportunities. A couple shots went off the posts and crossbar. We just had to keep shooting and eventually the ball found its way in the net."

"Both keepers had a great night, Sara Zameroski played so well for Ridgway. She made it really tough for us to score and made save after save for them. Lillian Belsole didn't have as much action for us but she came up big when we needed her."

"Our defense consisting of Mary MacDonald, Sophia Shirey, Lanie Weisner and Josie Sorg continue to be a solid line. They are a big reason we are able to maintain possession like we do."

"I also thought our midfield played really well. Both Katie Straub and Lucy Dornisch had some really nice crosses. Avery Stauffer played some very pretty balls up the field."

The Lady Crusaders had 71 shots on goal and the Lady Elkers had 17.

Lillian Belsole recorded the shutout with 17 saves.

The Lady Crusaders will play Brockway on Thursday at home, the game will have a four o clock start.
