Crusaders Defeat Monessen, Rams Advance, Red Raiders Fall

For the 11th straight time, Elk County Catholic won an opening-round PIAA playoff game thanks to a 61-29 victory over WPIAL third-place finisher, Monessen, in the Class 1A playoffs at Aaron Straub Gym at ECC.
Six ECC players scored in the 24-point second quarter, led by six points from Frankie Simnth and four each from Jake Wasko and Jack Breindel.

JOHNSONBURG, Pa. – Parker Calla and Jonah King combined to score 31 points, as Johnsonburg used a strong second half to beat visiting West Middlesex, 48-35, in a matchup of district runners-up in the opening round of the PIAA Class 1A playoffs.
Johnsonburg will take on defending PIAA champion and WPIAL champion Neighborhood Academy in the second round on Tuesday at a site and time to be announced. Neighborhood beat St. Joseph’s Catholic Academy, 50-32.

WATERFALL, Pa. – A slow start doomed Cameron County in a 58-50 loss at District 5 champion Forbes Road. Malakai Zucal led a trio of Cameron County players in double digits with 13 points. Nick Goss added 12, and Isaac Grovanz contributed 11 points.
