We had a lot of opportunities that didn't find the back of the net. Their keeper did a great job from our stats he saved 12 of our opportunities.

The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders opened their 2025 volleyball season in dominant fashion Wednesday night, traveling to Punxsutawney and defeating the Lady Chucks in straight sets, 3–0.

ECC controlled the match from the opening serve to the final point, posting set scores of 25-8, 25-17, and 25-15.

The Crusaders set the tone early in the first set with aggressive serving and sharp execution, overwhelming Punxsutawney from the start. The Lady Chucks showed fight in the second set, but ECC’s balanced attack proved too much, with the Crusaders registering 14 kills in that frame alone.

In the third set, the Lady Crusaders demonstrated resilience and depth. Trailing by four at one point, ECC steadied themselves and stormed back to close out the sweep.

“For our first match together, I thought we played with great composure and confidence,” Burrs said afterward. “We served tough, passed well, and got contributions from everyone on the roster. This was a strong start, but we know the real work is just beginning.”

The Crusaders’ junior varsity team also notched a win, overcoming a short-handed roster of just six players to earn a 2–0 victory by scores of 25-16 and 25-23.

With the sweep, the Lady Crusaders begin their season with a perfect 1-0 record and plenty of momentum.
