Elk County Catholic Advanced To The Quarterfinals With Win Over Serra Catholic

Elk County Catholic advanced to the PIAA Class 1A boys’ basketball quarterfinals with a 68-48 win over WPIAL runner-up Serra Catholic on Tuesday at Punxsutawney High School.
Simbeck scored a career-high 33 points, including 20 in the first half. ECC will face D10 champion Erie First Christian, a 75-58 winner over Forbes Road, in the quarterfinals on Friday, March 13, at a stie and time to be announced.
NEIGHBORHOOD ACADEMY 59, JOHNSONBURG 45
The Johnsonburg Rams were eliminated from the playoffs after dropping a 59-45 decision to Neighborhood Academy on Tuesday. The D9 runner-up Rams were holding their own against WPIAL champion and defending PIAA 1A champ Neighbohood Academy, trailing by just five, 42-37, following a Gavin Lehman 3-pointer with 6:20 to play.
The Bulldogs put the game away with a 13-2 run over the next three minutes. Calla, who fouled out with just under four minutes left, paced Johnsonburg with 27, while Jude Schreiber added seven.
