The upcoming Independence Day weekend will bring with it celebrations, fireworks, and consumption of alcoholic beverages. The Elk County Sheriff’s Office Offers Some Suggestions To Make This Year’s Celebrations Happy And Memorable:

 Plan ahead before consuming alcoholic beverages and driving.

 Make arrangements for a designated driver or to stay overnight.

 Do not mix alcohol consumption with the use of fireworks.

 Use only fireworks that are legal, and supervise children during their use.

 Use fireworks in a safe location and away from combustible material.

 Never attempt to relight fireworks and have a bucket of water or hose line available. If any fireworks do not properly ignite, douse or soak it with water and discard it.

 If you suspect a drunk driver or witness an injury from fireworks, waste no time in calling 911 to get help on the way.

 Remember Pennsylvania’s new law prohibiting cell phone use while driving unless

drivers are using a hands-free device or need to make an emergency call for emergency services for first responders.

The County Sheriff’s Office extends our very best wishes to all for a happy and joyous holiday celebration.
