Gov. Josh Shapiro signed a proclamation of disaster emergency Sunday ahead of what is expected to be a significant winter storm for parts of Pennsylvania.
The proclamation provides funding and resources to state agencies to assist with response efforts.
“Today, I signed a disaster declaration to ensure our state agencies have all necessary resources ready to go," Shapiro said. "If you can stay off the roads, please do. If you must travel, be safe and follow instructions from PEMA (Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency) and your local authorities.”
Officials said they are sending staff and equipment toward the east part of the state, including mobilizing about 150 soldiers and airmen from the Pennsylvania National Guard.
The storm is projected to hit eastern Pennsylvania the hardest, with forecasts projecting the possibility of over 1 foot of snow in places like Philadelphia from Sunday night into Monday.
