FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Jay Township Volunteer Fire Company would like to clarify misinformation that has been circulating regarding the theft that occurred during a recent benefit dinner held at our fire hall.
While the event was hosted at our facility, the funds that were stolen did not belong to the Jay Township Volunteer Fire Company. The money belonged to a local family who was holding a benefit to help offset expenses for a loved one battling cancer.
Our hearts are with this family during what is already an incredibly difficult time. The focus of this unfortunate incident should remain on them and the support they need from our community—not on inaccurate reports suggesting that the Fire Company was the victim of the theft.
We are cooperating fully with law enforcement as they investigate this incident and hope the individual responsible is identified and held accountable.
The Jay Township Volunteer Fire Company has always been proud to open our doors to families and organizations in need. We remain committed to supporting our community and ask everyone to keep the affected family in their thoughts and prayers. If you are able, we encourage you to continue supporting them so that this senseless act does not diminish the generosity and compassion our community is known for.
We appreciate the media’s assistance in correcting the record and helping ensure that the attention remains where it belongs—on the family impacted by this crime.
“Out of respect for the ongoing investigation, we will have no further comment at this time and ask anyone with information about the theft to contact the Pennsylvania State Police.”
