Legislation Proposed To Lower Jury Duty Age From 75 to 70

A Pennsylvania lawmaker is proposing to lower the age for a permanent jury-duty exemption from 75 to 70, citing transportation and courtroom burdens facing older residents. Pennsylvania seniors could gain the option to permanently step away from jury duty five years earlier under legislation being revived in the state House.

The bill would not force anyone to stop serving. Residents between 70 and 74 who want to serve on a jury could still do so; the legislation only expands who is eligible to request an exemption.
