February is American Heart Month, a time when all people are encouraged to focus on their cardiovascular health. Currently, one out of every five deaths in the United States is due to heart disease.
This Friday, Feb. 6, is also National Wear Red Day, a campaign aimed at raising awareness that cardiovascular disease is the No. 1 killer of women.
To help protect yourself, choose healthy foods, keep a healthy weight, get regular physical activity and don’t smoke. People should also take charge of medical conditions that could increase their risk of heart disease, such as high cholesterol, high blood pressure or diabetes.
