Penn Highlands DuBois was one of only 12 Pennsylvania hospitals recognized with a 2025 Achievement Award by the Hospital and Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania (HAP). The Workforce Innovator Award was presented to the hospital for investing in nurses' professional growth and implementing decision-making to reduce vacancy rates and improve quality outcomes in a rural community.
In late 2024, Penn Highlands DuBois received the prestigious Pathway to Excellence designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). The designation highlights Penn Highlands DuBois' commitment to fostering a positive practice environment and a culture of sustained excellence.
To become a Pathway to Excellence hospital, a healthcare organization must demonstrate a sustained positive practice environment for nurses, including elements such as shared decision-making, strong leadership, focus on safety, quality improvement, nurse well-being and robust professional development opportunities. In addition, hospitals complete a rigorous application process by the ANCC which assesses the organization's culture and practices against established standards.
"Our health system supports the nursing staff by creating an environment where we feel valued, empowered and have a significant voice," said Jill Muir, DNP, MS, RN, NE-BC, Chief Nursing Officer, Penn Highlands DuBois and Penn Highlands Clearfield. "We are appreciative that HAP recognized Penn Highlands for its commitment to our professional growth."
