Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro on Thursday formally launched his 2026 re-election bid amid rumors of a presidential campaign in 2028.
The governor made the announcement on social media Thursday morning, highlighting the historic repairs of a collapsed portion of I-95 in Philadelphia in 2023 and other legislative achievements from the past three years.
Shapiro is expected to hold events in Pittsburgh and Philadelphia on Thursday as part of the campaign kickoff.
Shapiro was first elected governor in 2022 with a then-record 3 million statewide votes over State Senator Doug Mastriano, 56.49% to 41.71%. Shapiro’s vote record was broken by Treasurer Stacy Garrity, who announced in August that she is running in the Republican gubernatorial primary.
