SGL Carbon, a technology-based manufacturing company, is investing $100 million into its facility in St. Marys.

The capital investment will expand the site’s capability to purify, coat and create high-purity graphite. The graphite produced at the facility serves as a critical material for both the nuclear and semiconductor industries.

The facility currently employs approximately 230 people. A local community leader noted that expanding existing businesses helps maintain community growth, adding that local educational pathways will need to align with job requirements.

SGL Carbon expects to add about 100 positions at the St. Marys facility over the next five years. The new openings will include jobs for machinists, production workers and office staff.
