Simon F. “Frank” Shutters, 78, of Weedville, PA, passed away April 2nd, 2026, at Penn Highlands DuBois after a brief illness.
Simon grew up on Gardner Hill in Weedville. A member of the Gardner Hill church, he loved to hand out the programs and ring the bell on Sunday. He graduated from Bennett’s Valley High School in 1966. He was drafted into the Army during the Vietnam War, where he served his country for 1 year, 11 months, and 9 days, stateside, and worked as a bread baker. You could ask him how many ingredients he needed to make 100 loaves of bread, and he would be able to recite it to you without even thinking. Before he was drafted and after he returned home, he worked at Stackpole in Saint Mary's. He also worked at BPD, which was later renamed Stella-Jones in Falls Creek, PA. He still attended their annual events and could make friends with any of the newer employees in just one sitting. Simon was a part of the Cub Scouts for 27 years and was a Cub Scout Master for Cub Pack 180. Simon was a farmer, a gardener, a baker, a fisherman, a woodworker, and a hunter. Most of all, though, he was a family man, and he loved to spend time with his family. Often, after holiday meals, he would recommend a game of Cinch or Old Hell to spend even more time making memories. Simon was the kind of guy who would be there and help anyone, no matter where you were from or who you were. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his 6 children, Simon (Lynne) Shutters of Weedville, PA; Bridget (Lee) Ogden of Clearfield, PA; Martin (Cara) Shrubb of Weedville, PA; Nathan Shrubb of Weedville, PA; Cody Shutters of Coal Hollow, PA; and Zachary Shutters of Weedville, PA. His grandchildren are Melanie (Noah) Davilla, Kayla Shutters, Cory (Amanda) Hamm, Ally Hamm, Lee Ogden Jr., Kristin Shrubb, Trenton Shrubb, Natalie Shrubb, Ashton Shutters, Oliver Shutters, and Madeline Carnahan. And two great-grandchildren, Eleanor Hamm and Evelyn Rose Davila. His siblings: Andrew (Rita) Shutters, Emma (Bill) Hawker, Alice (Edward) Benevich, Laurie (Martin) Mosher, Gloria (Adolf) Busse, and Jeannette Shutters Vanyo. He was preceded in death by his parents, Simon W. Shutters and Jimmie N. Gray Shutters, and one sister, Dorothy ( Dot) Waple.
Friends and Family will be received Monday, April 6th, 2026, from 11-1 and 3-5 at Ralph Geer Funeral Home in Penfield, PA, with funeral and military honor service following the final viewing.
Donations can be made in Simon’s honor to Disabled American Veterans, with whom he was honored to have been given rides to and from his appointments at the Vets.
The family will be accepting online condolences at the Ralph M. Geer Funeral Home website(www.nedzafamilyfuneralhomes.com).
