Twila M. Alden, 99, Emporium

Twila M. Alden, 99, of Emporium, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on the morning of Monday, April 21, 2025, at Guy & Mary Felt Manor in Emporium. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and community servant, Twila lived a life rich with faith, dedication, and quiet strength.

Born on November 4, 1925, in Smethport, PA, she was the daughter of the late E. Montgomery and Susan Lazorchak Ludwig. Twila graduated from Austin High School in 1944 and later married Fred Alden, on October 24, 1949, in the First Baptist Church. They shared a deep bond for many years together before his passing.

Twila served her community faithfully as the secretary for Portage Township and was an active member of the Portage Township Recreation Board. A woman of strong faith, she was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church, where she served as a Deaconess, taught Sunday School, and was a dedicated member of the Ladies Missionary Society.

Twila is survived by her two daughters, R. Sue Crofutt of Emporium and Linda (Rich) Leavitt of Emporium; her grandson, David Leavitt; and two nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Fred, her son-in-law Cecil “Gordon” Crofutt, her sisters Dorothy Yazach and Grace Hathaway, and a niece Vicky Thomas.

Twila’s gentle spirit, unwavering faith, and love for her family and community will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

A funeral service will be held at Barnett Funeral Home, 207 E. Fourth Street, Emporium, PA, on Friday, April 25, 2025, at 12:00 PM with Rev. Russell J. Horning officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service starting at 11:00 AM. She will be laid to rest in Portage Township Cemetery, Gardeau, PA.
