Volunteers Restoring Historic Johnsonburg Building

Volunteers in Johnsonburg are restoring the historic Brick Block building in an effort to bring new commercial businesses and residential spaces to the downtown district.
The volunteer team has completed work on six of the building’s 12 units so far. The Johnsonburg Community Trust acquired the Brick Block building in 2019 to create and execute a rehabilitation plan for the downtown area.
The expansive structure represents approximately 25% of the borough’s commercial historic district.
Organizers are preparing for future phases of development on the building’s upper levels, which include plans for residential apartments and mixed-use spaces. Dessler outlined the project’s anticipated timeline for retail occupancy and upper-floor development.
