Cheryl Grunthaner, 70, St. Marys

Cheryl Grunthaner, 70, of 1000 LeMans Road, St. Marys, passed away peacefully Sunday, February 8, 2026 at Penn Highlands DuBois surrounded by her children.

She was born March 24, 1955, in St. Marys, daughter of the late Frederick Jr. and Dorothy (Wachob) Haberberger. Cheryl was a lifelong resident of St. Marys and a graduate of St. Marys Area High School, Class of 1973.

On June 7, 1975, in the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Cheryl married the late Robert Grunthaner, who preceded her in death on March 30, 2020. Cheryl is survived by two daughters, Tiffany Fry (Robert) of St. Marys and Victoria Bowser (Bary II) of Columbia Station, OH; a son, Christopher Grunthaner (Melissa Gregori) of DuBois; six grandchildren: Ava Logue, Selena Logue, Isobel Bowser, Bary Bowser III, Sienna Sapielak, and Nicolas Sapielak; a brother, Dennis Haberberger (Phylis) of St. Marys; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, Cheryl was preceded in death by her sister, Vera Haberberger.

Cheryl was a devoted wife, loving mother, and cherished grandmother whose family was always at the center of her life. She had a deep love for animals and found joy in caring for them, a reflection of her gentle and compassionate spirit. She was preceded in death by her beloved dogs, cats, and birds, including most recently her loving and dependable dog, Bindi, who was a constant companion and source of joy and comfort to her. Her love and attention will also be missed by Tootsie, a dog owned by her son Christopher, and three cats named Jockey, Chunk and Pillow that belong to her daughter, Tiffany.

For many years, Cheryl drove a school bus for Muccio Transportation, and countless children, who are now adults, will remember her as their school bus driver. Cheryl was also an accomplished, passionate and creative craftswoman, with a special interest in ceramics. She took great pride and joy in creating beautiful, hand painted ceramics and other crafts that she sold at craft shows throughout the area over the years.

Cheryl’s family will have a private committal service in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery to honor her memory and to celebrate that she has now rejoined her loving husband and dear sister, both of whom she greatly missed.
