Community Unites for Mental Health Healing and Art Therapy at Penn Highlands DuBois

Members of the community gathered at the Penn Highlands DuBois East Campus for “Hope Starts Here: The Art of Connection,” a special event dedicated to suicide awareness, mental health education and healing through artistic expression.

Throughout the event, attendees participated in a collaborative live mural painting. Brushstroke by brushstroke, community members contributed to a vibrant canvas designed to honor loved ones lost, offer solidarity to those currently struggling and serve as a visible reminder of recovery and hope. The finished artwork will be displayed in the Stern Center for Behavioral Health, located at 635 Maple Avenue in DuBois, PA.

In addition to the art project, the evening featured live music, refreshments, mental health education and information on local mental health resources.

“Events like ‘Hope Starts Here’ remind us that healing happens in the community,” said Brian Gray, MA, MHA, assistant vice president, behavioral health operations, at Penn Highlands DuBois East Campus. “Bringing people together through art, education and shared experiences is one way we can foster understanding, encourage people to seek help when they need it and remind our community that no one has to face mental health challenges alone.”
