Exploring the Devil’s Den in Elk County

Located deep within State Game Lands 44 in Elk County, the Devil’s Den is a massive sandstone rock formation stretching approximately 400 yards across a forested mountainside
Featuring towering cliffs, enormous overhangs, narrow passages, and scenic overlooks, this geological attraction is one of the most impressive rock formations I’ve encountered during my travels across Pennsylvania.
One of the highlights of this route is that it passes right by Umbrella Rock, one of Pennsylvania’s most unusual geological formations, making it possible to visit two fascinating natural landmarks on the same hike.
