Cameron County Chamber of Commerce announced the location for the fireworks which will light up the sky on Friday July 3 and the start of fundraising. They will be launched from a private property on Tannery Heights. Fundraising will begin May 29 with a $3 lunch hot dog sale at Emporium Food Market.
For the second year in a row the chamber was faced with securing a location suitable with R&R Fireworks. Numerous locations were ruled out due to proximity to state roads, homes, electric transmission lines or businesses. The chamber staff approached Cameron County School Board to return to the popular site, but due to the McClure project at Woodland Elementary School land outside of the football field/track was not available. While approval was given to utilize land near the Mid Cameron plant, members of Cameron County SPCA expressed issues with proximity to the shelter. Last year’s location is now for sale. “The chamber wants to find a new permanent location, and luckily a family on Tannery Heights offered their property,” says executive director Tina Solak.
The location is across from the Cameron County School property and will provide viewing opportunities throughout the western section of Emporium, and Route 46. The remote location will eliminate the need for parking attendants and allow volunteers to enjoy the show instead of “working” during the event.
