Tuesday, May 19th is Primary Election Day. Polls are open on Election Day from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. If you are in line by 8 p.m., you will be allowed to vote.
Because Pennsylvania has a closed primary system, voters can only vote for candidates in the party they're registered for —meaning registered Republicans can only vote for Republican candidates, and Democrats can only vote for Democratic candidates.
However, all registered voters can vote on constitutional amendment questions, ballot questions or special elections in their district.
On the ballot are the governor and lieutenant governor, along with the entire Pennsylvania House and half of the state Senate. All of Pennsylvania’s 17 congressional districts will also be up for election. Across the state, there might also be local ballot questions.
Democrats and Republicans will cast votes for their parties’ candidates across races for governor, lieutenant governor, state House and Senate, and the U.S. House of Representatives.
The winners of each primary will face each other during the Nov. 3 general election.
