John J. Morgan, 84, Wilcox

John J. Morgan, 84, of Horner Road, Wilcox, passed away Wednesday morning, January 7, 2026. In a rare and special full circle moment, John was born on the same family property where he passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family.


John was born on April 11, 1941, in Wilcox, PA, to the late John and Martha Morgan. A lifelong resident of Wilcox, he was a 1960 graduate of Johnsonburg High School. John proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1960 to 1964. Once a Marine, always a Marine.


On August 13, 1966, John married the love of his life, Bernice Wantuck, at St. Anne’s Church in Wilcox. Together, they built a life rooted in family, faith and community.


John spent 39 years working for Windstream, where he was well known and respected by coworkers and friends. Outside of work, he was an active member of the Marine Corps League Bob Swanson Det. 1102, Wilcox Sportsmen’s Club, and the Wilcox American Legion.


John enjoyed traveling and spent many happy years exploring the country with his wife. Together, they visited all 50 states – a goal he was especially proud of accomplishing.


In addition to his wife John is survived by his children: Don (Jodie) Morgan; Loraine Martonik; Dan (Kelly) Morgan; Dennis (Theresa) Morgan. His legacy also includes his grandchildren: Tanner Morgan; Bailey Morgan; Kennedy Morgan; Mason (Lauren) Martonik; Tyler Martonik; Paige (Matt) Martonik-McKay; Connor Morgan; Jenna (Matt) Dush; Andrew Orourke; Kolton Orourke and two great grandchildren Maeve and Jax.


He is also survived by one brother and three sisters; Robert Morgan; Mary Phillips; Molly (Walter) Polinski; Michele (Mike) Pavlock, along with numerous nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Paul “Max” Morgan and his sisters Martha “Sis” Bedford and Maureen Carlson.


In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in John’s memory to the Wilcox Volunteer Fire Department, Wilcox Holiday Lighting, Penn Highlands Community Nurses, or St. Jude’s Research Hospital.


John “Poppy” will be remembered for his dedication and love for his family, his service to country and his story telling abilities. He lived his life with pride, loyalty and love – and he will be deeply missed.


Friends and family are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial for John J. Morgan to be conducted at St. Anne’s Church, Wilcox on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at 10 AM with Fr. David Wilson, Pastor as celebrant. Interment will be private. There will be no visitation.
