New Trustees Appointed To Palumbo Charitable Trust

Mr. John W. Kowach, Executive Director and Trustee of the A.J. and Sigismunda Palumbo Charitable Trust, is pleased and honored to announce the appointments of Mr. Howard Allen, Mr. James L. Hackett III and Mr. Alex K. Scull as new members of the Trust’s Board of Trustees. Kowach also wishes to report that Mr. Robert A. Ordiway has been elected as Chairman of the Trust along with Mr. Robert O’Leary being selected as Treasurer.

Allen, Hackett and Scull have all been involved in numerous nonprofit and philanthropic activities within their communities for many years.

Allen, who currently serves as the store manager for the Walmart Supercenter in DuBois, is Chairman of the Board of Directors of Goodwill Industries of North Central Pennsylvania, serves on the DuBois Education Foundation, and is a council member for the Indiana University of Pennsylvania Eberly College of Business Administration Business Advisory Committee. He was formerly a member of the Walmart Foundation State Giving Committee, the Board of Directors of the DuBois Area Chamber of Commerce, as well as the DuBois Area United Way. Allen has also received many honors during his career, including the Dave Shaffer Outstanding Young Alumni Award, the Walmart Manager of the Year Award, and the Delta Award Winner, Walmart HR Division.

Hackett is retired from Sasol North America, an organization that specializes in commodity chemicals manufacturing. During his 30-year career, Hackett was involved in sales and marketing, product management, and operations (Quality Control Manager, Production Unit Manager, and Plant Manager). Currently, Hackett is the President of the Boys and Girls Club of St. Marys. He also serves on the Sacred Heart Parish Finance Committee and is a member of the St. Marys Rotary Club. Previously in Tucson, Arizona, he was a Grand Knight of the K of C Council 10441. Most recently, he has been involved in the Gifts 4 Kids Project, a community charity program that provides Christmas toys and gifts for hundreds of local children in need throughout Elk County each year.

Scull is a native of DuBois, Pennsylvania, a graduate of Westminster College, and the great-nephew of the Trust’s founders, A.J. and Sigismunda Palumbo. He joins his grandfather, Joseph Palumbo, in service on the Trust’s Board. Residing in Hollywood, California, Scull currently serves as Associate Vice President of Development for the Arts at the University of Southern California (USC) in Los Angeles. He has spent the past 15 years in higher education advancement and fundraising, with a particular focus on philanthropy in support of the arts and cultural institutions His expertise spans transformational giving, estate planning, capital projects, and scholarship campaigns.

Allen, Hackett and Scull have all demonstrated their commitment to serve their communities and others. Their involvement truly complements the A.J. and Sigismunda Charitable Trust’s mission to provide hope for the future and improve the quality of life for those who need support throughout Western Pennsylvania.

Ordiway and O’Leary have recently assumed important leadership positions within the A.J. and Sigismunda Palumbo Charitable Trust.

Ordiway, who has served as Vice Chairman for a number of years, will now serve as Chairman, acting as the presiding officer at all meetings of the Trust and its Executive Committee. O’Leary has been appointed as Treasurer of the Trust, where he will supervise, oversee, and manage the financial affairs of the Trust. Both Ordiway and O’Leary have given countless hours of support to numerous organizations throughout the St. Marys and Elk County areas, and their involvement with the A.J. and Sigismunda Palumbo Charitable Trust has led to the significant evolution and growth of the Trust over the past several years.
