Paula W. Detsch, 72, of St. Marys, died on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at Jefferson Manor following a lengthy illness.
She was born on March 13,1954, in St. Marys, a daughter of the late Thomas and Marie Nicklas Walker.
On June 9, 1973, at Queen of The World, she married the late Charles J. Detsch, who preceded her in death on May 29, 1996.
Paula was a 1972 graduate of St. Marys High School and retired from the Post Office after more than 20 years of dedicated service. She was a woman of quiet strength and unwavering independence, someone who carried herself with determination and grace through every season of life. She found joy in the simple, meaningful moments-whether it was the steady rhythm of a sewing machine, the peace of the outdoors, or the warmth of a kitchen filled with the aroma of a home-cooked meal. Her greatest happiness, however, was found in the time she spent with her beloved grandchildren, who brought endless pride and laughter to her days. She also cherished the loyal companionship of her dogs, who were never far from her side. Strong-willed yet deeply caring, she leaves behind a legacy of resilience, love, and the reminder that life's greatest treasures are often found in the everyday moments we share with those closest to us
She is survived by three children; Michael (Jamie) Detsch, Amanda Annis (Ben Nicklas), and Rebecca (Brett) Herzing, all of St. Marys, seven grandchildren: Mayson Annis, Kalyssa Annis, Lexy Herzing, Braelynn Herzing, Aubrey Herzing, Hayden Cooney, and McKenzie Nicklas. She is also survived by a sister, Louise Meyer and her husband Michael of St. Marys, many nieces and nephews, and by her longtime friend, Debbie Schneider. She is also survived by several in-laws; Paula and Philip Cunningham, Laura Detsch and Betty Detsch.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law; Todd Annis, by a nephew; Nick Detsch.
