The following is from a social media post by State Rep.Martin Causer on the proposed closing of Bradford Regional Medical Center.

Today’s notice by Kaleida Health that it intends to close our hospital in Bradford is devastating news for our community. But as far as I’m concerned, the fight to save our hospital is far from over.

I have been in conversations with hospital officials, the Shapiro administration and other health care systems in efforts to keep the hospital open in Bradford. I firmly believe Kaleida’s announcement today is premature and obviously fails to consider the extraordinary negative impacts these plans would have on the health and safety of our residents. We have been making progress, and Kaleida Health is pulling the rug out from under those efforts.

The bottom line is it is LONG PAST time to get Kaleida Health out of our community in favor of a provider that actually recognizes it has a responsibility to the patients, the health care professionals and the community, not just the bottom line.

To be clear, significant challenges exist in the health care industry, especially in rural areas like ours. But our kids, our families and our senior citizens deserve access to life-saving care in their own communities. I will continue working with fellow state and local officials to keep vital health care services open and available to serve the people of Bradford and surrounding areas.
