Senate Bills Would Help PA Fire Departments, VFWs, American Legions With Fundraising

A pair of bills that would assist Pennsylvania fire departments, VFWs and American Legions with fundraising are now headed to the governor's desk.

The first, Senate Bill 416, is intended to "modernize the small games of chance law" by allowing eligible nonprofits to accept electronic payments for raffle tickets. Credit and debit cards, as well as online platforms like PayPal and Venmo, are included.

Second, Senate Bill 398, also unanimously passed, allows fire departments, VFWs and American Legions with a Small Games of Chance license to hold unlimited raffles online for items such as side-by-sides, sportsmen equipment, grills and gift cards.
