William C. Barton, 75, of Emporium, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully at Sena Kean Manor in Smethport, Pennsylvania, on Sunday morning, July 5, 2026, with his loving wife by his side.
He was born on March 13, 1951, in Olean, New York, a son of the late Donn and Beverly (Ransome) Bonhoff.
On June 3, 2023, in Emporium, he married Mary (Shaw), who survives.
Bill proudly served his country with the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he worked as a mechanic at Gerber’s Garage in Emporium for several years before fulfilling his dream of owning his own business, opening B & B Auto in Emporium. A skilled craftsman with a strong work ethic, Bill later pursued his passion for blacksmithing, establishing a blacksmith shop where he handcrafted custom knives and swords that were treasured by many throughout the years.
An outdoorsman at heart, Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing, and riding motorcycles. Whether in his garage, at the forge, or spending time outdoors, he took pride in working with his hands and sharing his knowledge with others.
In addition to his beloved wife, Mary Barton, he is survived by a daughter, Robin Chemsak; a son, Bill Barton and his wife, Gretchen; stepsons, Christopher Henning, Jeffrey Henning, and Terry Coveny; stepdaughters, Samantha Henning and Jill Gibbs; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; (especially loved by YaYa and Papas); several nieces and nephews; two brothers, Don Barton and Tom Barton; and a sister, Dorie Robuck.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Milton and Doris Cummings.
The family will receive friends at the Barnett Funeral Home, 207 E. Fourth Street, Emporium, on Monday, July 13, 2026, from 3:00 to 4:00 PM. Military honors will follow by the Cameron County Memorial Detail.
