Diane M. Nissel, 80, of Rosely Road, St. Marys, passed away on Wednesday, February 11, 2026 at UPMC Montefiore Hospital in Pittsburgh following a brief illness.
She was born on January 23, 1946 in St. Marys, PA, a daughter of the late Roman and Bertha Eckert Wendel.
On October 9, 1965, she married the late Thomas E. Nissel, who preceded her in death on January 14, 2010. Together they were blessed with more than 44 years of marriage.
Diane was a lifelong resident of St. Marys and a graduate of St. Marys Area High School. She was a member of Queen of the World Church. Diane worked for a number of years at the Big Z, where she met and made many friends. Diane loved spending time outdoors and could often be found gardening. In a quiet moment, Diane enjoyed completing pages in her coloring books or baking her famous chocolate chip cookies. A supportive and caring wife, mother and grandmother, Diane cherished her family and enjoyed spending time with them.
She is survived by three sons; Thomas (Johnny) Nissel of Kailua, HI, Toby (Jan) Nissel of Pittsburgh, and Kevin Nissel of St. Marys; by her four beloved grandchildren; J.T., Marcianna, Isabella, and Cody and by two great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by four siblings; Richard Wendel of St. Marys, Arlene Wehler of St. Marys, Ruthalene Zimmett of St. Marys, and Phyllis Grazioli of Kersey, as well as by numerous nieces and nephews, including a special nephew; Stan Meyer.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Diane was preceded in death by two sisters; Georgiann Friedl and Rita Simbeck; and by a brother, James Wendel.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Diane M. Nissel will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 17, 2026 at 1:00 PM at the Queen of the World Church, 134 Queens Road, St. Marys, PA 15857 with Fr. Jeffery Noble, Pastor, as celebrant.
Burial will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to the Arbor Day Foundation.
