Fredrick B. "Fred" Schneider, 80, St. Marys

Fredrick B. "Fred" Schneider, 80, of W. Theresia Road, St. Marys, passed away peacefuly at his home on Wednesday, September 30, 2026 with his loving family by his side.

He was born on December 8, 1945 in St. Marys, PA, a son of the late Fredrick Schneider and Elizabeth "Betty" Smith Schneider Frey.

On October 23, 1965, in St. Marys, he married Shirley Schneider, who survives. Together they were blessed with more than 60 years of love, laughter, and memories.

Fred was a lifelong member of St. Marys Church and graduate of Elk County Christian High School, Class of 1963. He worked for many years at SGL Carbon and then spent another 10 years working at the local hospital. He found some of his greatest happiness in the simple things in life-a good day of fishing, time spent hunting, picking berries, playing a game of cinch, or having someone stop by for a visit. An avid fisherman, he belonged to several local fishing clubs and could always be counted on for a good story or a joke that would make you smile. Every February, Fred looked forward to hosting the annual wild game dinner and sharing a meal and stories with his buddies. But perhaps some of Fred's most treasured moments happened right at home. Every Sunday, he baked bread, knowing his family would be coming home, and there was something special about gathering together with the smell of fresh bread filling the house. He and his wife enjoyed going out for a meal together and looked forward every year to making keuchels, traditions that became treasured memories over the years. Fred genuinely loved people, and nothing made him happier than a house with company in it and family close by. And when the house was quiet, his beloved grand-dog, Roxy, was never far away. She was his faithful companion and brought him immeasurable comfort and happiness. Fred's life was filled with the things that mattered most to him-faith, family, friendship, laughter, and the familiar traditions that made home feel like home.

In addition to his wife Shirley of 60 years, he is survived by five children; Danette (Joe) Wickett of St. Marys, Jeffrey (Colleen) Schneider of Johnsonburg, Scott (Dawna) Schneider of Ridgway, Alan (Tracy) Schneider of Kersey, and Becki (Troy) Taylor; and by his nine beloved grandchildren; Tyler, Cory, Nathan, Trey, Alyssa, Alexa, Haleigh, Jesse, and Hollie.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Fredrick B. Schneider will be celebrated on Monday, October 5, 2026 at 12:00 PM at St. Marys Church, 315 Church Street, St. Marys, PA 15857 with Fr. Thomas Curry, OSB as celebrant.

Burial will follow in the St. Marys Catholic Cemetery.

Family and friends will be received at the Lynch-Green Funeral Home on Monday, October 5, 2026 from 10:30 until 11:30 AM.
